Near, Not Earned

The Righteousness of Faith (Romans 10)

1. Zeal Without Truth Misses God

(Rom 10:1–3)

  • Zeal for God can still be misguided without true knowledge
  • Refusing to submit to God’s righteousness is the core issue
  • Pride drives us to establish our own righteousness

2. Christ Ends All Self-Made Righteousness

(Rom 10:4–8)

  • Christ is the end and fulfillment of the law
  • Righteousness by faith does not strive—it receives
  • The word is near: nothing more needs to be achieved

3. Faith Is Heart and Mouth

(Rom 10:9–10)

  • True faith is inward belief and outward confession
  • Confession expresses real allegiance to Jesus as Lord
  • Faith in Christ rests on His death and resurrection

4. One Lord for All People

(Rom 10:11–13)

  • There is no distinction in access to salvation
  • The same Lord responds to all who call on Him
  • Everyone who calls on the Lord will be saved

5. Faith Comes Through Hearing

(Rom 10:14–17)

  • People cannot believe without hearing the message
  • God uses human messengers to proclaim the gospel
  • Faith is grounded in the message about Christ

6. God Reaches Out—People Still Resist

(Rom 10:18–21)

  • God reveals Himself even to those not seeking Him
  • He patiently holds out His hands to His people
  • Rejection flows from a resistant and unwilling heart

Reflection Questions

  1. Where am I still trying to “earn” what Christ has already given?
(In what situations do I slip into performance instead of resting in Him?)
  2. What does “Jesus is Lord” challenge most in my current life?
(Which area competes for control, security, or identity?)
  3. Do I treat my faith as something private—or does it find expression outwardly?
(Where is God prompting me to speak or live more openly?)
  4. Who has God placed in my life to hear the gospel from me—and am I praying for them?
(Where can I be intentional in both prayer and relationship?)
