Empowered: Living in the Fire of Promise
1. The Spirit Was Promised for All People
- Joel’s prophecy revealed a radical vision: God’s Spirit for all flesh—regardless of gender, age, or status (Joel 2:28–29)
- Pentecost breaks all boundaries: the Spirit is for Jew and Gentile, male and female alike (Acts 2:16–18)
2. Jesus Is the Baptizer With the Holy Spirit and Fire
- John contrasted his baptism of repentance with Jesus’ baptism in the Spirit and fire (Luke 3:16)
- Fire represents both power and purification—revival and holiness
- Believers are meant to be inwardly ignited and outwardly empowered
3. The Spirit’s Coming Fulfills the Promise and Launches the Mission
- Jesus commanded the disciples to wait for the power to witness (Acts 1:4–8)
- At Pentecost, the Spirit filled everyone—not just apostles—and the Church was born in mission (Acts 2:1–4)
- Peter declared: “This promise is for you… your children… and all who are far off” (Acts 2:38–39)
4. The Spirit Empowers With Gifts for the Whole Church
Application for Today’s Disciples
- Seek the Promise Boldly – The baptism in the Holy Spirit is still available for all believers today (Acts 2:39)
- Live on Fire – Let the Spirit ignite your heart with boldness, purity, and passion for Christ’s mission (Luke 3:16)
- Use the Gifts in Love – Desire spiritual gifts, but walk in love and build others up (1 Corinthians 14:1)
- Stay on Mission – Spirit baptism is for witness, not just experience—so go and proclaim Christ in the power of the Spirit (Acts 1:8)
